Description
This fish is a bottom feeder, feeding near sand banks and rocky areas adjoining sand - bottomed gullies. It feeds on mussels, redbait, ghost crab, sealice, sand prawn and occassionally small fish or octopus. It follows that it would be best pursued in water where a sandbank is being washed by incoming tide in fairly clean water, especially at night when it comes in close in close to the shore
Try to use its natural food as bait, however, it will also take fresh sardine fillet, karanteen fillet and prawn sometimes combined with small tenderised squid strips
Typical Bite
The fish will offer you one or two bumps, then a positive pull. Make sure you set the hook well, it has a tough jaw. Never give this fish any slack as it fights hard
